Dry vs Dehydrated Skin: What’s the difference?

Dry vs Dehydrated Skin: What’s the difference?

We know - dry and dehydrated might seem like they synonyms (thank you, high school English teacher), but when it comes to skincare, they most certainly are not. Unfortunately, many people don’t realise the difference and end up treating their poor gorgeous mug in the wrong way. But never fear! We’re here to teach you to spot the key differences and to help you treat these two conditions with some of our delicious skin treats.

This refers to a skin type (think sensitive, oily, or combination) that’s lacking in natural skin lipids, aka oils. It appears flaky and rough, and you can be born with a dry skin type, which means that your skin just naturally produces less oil. Sadly, you can’t change your skin type, but you can top up its oil levels with a nourishing skincare routine.

So, if you’re a dry skin gal, the best secret weapon in your fight against dryness is to add some lipids to your skincare regime, and make sure that you aren’t using anything too harsh or stripping on your skin! Dry skin struggles to produce oil, and drying products will just make the problem much, much worse. Our suggestions? Cleanse with an oil-based cleanser like our Balancing Cleansing Balm, and treat that wondrous visage with our Nourishing Treatment Oil.

Unlike dry skin, dehydrated skin is a skin condition rather than a skin type, and is a sign of a damaged skin barrier. This natural protective barrier stops irritants from getting in, while also preventing water from getting out (talk about multitasking!), and can be damaged by anything from sun exposure, to hard water, air-conditioning, heaters, and even ageing. Plus, everyone can experience dehydrated skin, even oily skin types! (We know, we know: MIND = BLOWN.)

If you’re dealing with dehydrated skin, try our Balancing Cleansing Balm, which is packed with all the skin goodies that you need to replenish that all-important protective barrier, and back it up with our Refreshing Tonic Mist and Balancing Hydra Serum, which will work in tandem to help up your skin’s water content again.

Got it? Got it. Now go forth and conquer, you wondrously hydrated Goddess!
